Safe(r) Space – Work in Progress x STAR Leiden
As announced before, Work in Progress’ conference “Transformative Strategies towards Inclusion” was postponed due to Covid-19. However, Work in Progress thinks that this topic is more relevant than ever, as “the virus may not discriminate”, but its effects and the student communities it is affecting visualizes and further deepens already existing inequalities. Work in Progress’ initial objective with regards to the conference was to strengthen the sense of community on a national and international level regarding student groups invested in the topics of diversity, inclusion, social justice, equity and art. In this uncertain and digitally dominated era, creating a sense of community is more difficult, but not impossible. Therefore, Work in Progress will collaborate with STAR Leiden – Space to Talk About Race who would have hosted a safe space session at the conference. Work in Progress and STAR will offer an online safe space for students grappling with issues surrounding lockdown, isolation and social distancing and the intersections thereof with our own particular realities. We find it important to have a space where we can safely and openly talk about how the recent developments are affecting us; where we can feel heard and supported by each other and, hopefully, find (new) ways of coping and healing. [The safe space session will take place on Microsoft Teams on the 20th of May, 2020 between 17:00-18:30 and is open to everyone. You can register here.
