Saran Stewart is the Director of Global Education at the Neag School of Education, as well as Faculty Director for the Global House Living and Learning Community at the University of Connecticut in the US.

She was formerly a Senior Lecturer and Deputy Dean at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica. The focus of her research is on access and equity in education and teaching and learning in local and global contexts, utilizing postcolonial, decolonial, (post)diasporic, and critical and inclusive pedagogical theories.

Much of her research examines issues of race, gender, intersectionality and educational development through an international and comparative education lens employing both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
